With its 5th release, the new CIC release model from ININ enters its second named year... and we are pleased. Sure, there will always be issues that we run into from time to time, but overall, the quality, consistency, and reliability of these releases and biweekly patches has been a significant improvement.
There are two significant items to keep in mind with this release:
- The Interaction Client .NET Edition has been removed and replaced with the Interaction Desktop.
This application is very similar to IC Business Manager in that it allows multiple workspaces and increased layout flexibility... while still looking VERY much like the older .NET client. Once you get used to the new icon and find the status bar at the top instead of the middle, using it is basically the same, just better. In fact, I learned today that it handles Windows Font Scaling quite nicely where the .NET client definitely did not.
- The Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 is required.
This release also includes a bunch of new features including an Interaction Connect API and Add-in support, many Recorder/Analyzer/Optimizer/etc. enhancements, and (one of my favorites) the public release of the IC Documentation Library and just-in-time training videos at help.inin.com
These full releases seem to take a bit longer to apply than Service Updates did (perhaps 6-8 hours on average instead of 4-6 hours), but gains and ease of use have been well worth the additional time.
